Looking for an original activity for your corporate event? An extra virgin olive oil tasting is the perfect experience: fun, educational, and alcohol-free. At LoCatamos we bring you a professional EVOO tasting where your team will learn to tell apart varieties, origins, and quality grades while enjoying some of the best premium olive oils from Spain.
Since 2009 we have run more than 2,000 tastings and workshops for companies. We travel anywhere in mainland Spain with everything needed to make your event memorable. Whether it’s an olive oil tasting in Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, or any other city, we bring the experience directly to your office, hotel, or event venue.
Our olive oil tasting is much more than trying different EVOOs. It’s a guided sensory journey led by expert tasters who will teach you how to detect fruity, herbaceous, pungent, and bitter notes in an enjoyable, easy-going way.
Each participant receives a professional tasting kit including:
The experience lasts around 60 minutes, alternating tasting with short educational monologues about the world of olive oil. You’ll learn the history of EVOO, how it’s produced, how it’s tasted professionally, and why Spain is the world’s leading olive oil producer. All of it with humour and a down-to-earth approach that makes even total beginners feel like seasoned tasters.
Organising corporate events and looking for alternatives to the usual after-work drinks? An olive oil tasting works for team building, lunchtime events, training days, or any occasion where you want your team to have fun while learning.
Unlike wine or beer tastings, an EVOO tasting offers:
We’ve worked with teams from 15 to 200 people, adjusting the format to the group size. For larger groups we run multiple stations in parallel, each one led by an expert taster to keep the energy up.
Every company is different, so we tailor each olive oil tasting to your needs:
Want to push the experience further? We also offer EVOO pairings, combining the tasted oils with:
This option turns the tasting into a full gastronomic experience, perfect for networking events or special celebrations.
An olive oil tasting is a structured sensory evaluation focused on the organoleptic characteristics of EVOO: colour, aroma, flavour, and texture. Unlike simply “trying” an oil, a professional tasting follows a specific protocol that lets you identify the quality and unique character of each sample.
We observe the colour of the oil, which can range from intense green to golden yellow. Although colour doesn’t determine quality, it gives us clues about the olive variety and the moment of harvest.
We warm the oil in the cup with our hands and inhale deeply. This is where we pick up fruity attributes (fresh grass, tomato, banana, apple) that point to the freshness and variety of the EVOO.
We take a small sip and spread it across the mouth, drawing air in to oxygenate the oil. This is how we identify the three key positive attributes: fruitiness, bitterness, and pungency. Yes, that tingle at the back of your throat is a sign of quality, not a defect.
A quality extra virgin olive oil should present:
During our olive oil tasting, we teach you to spot these attributes and to tell a premium EVOO from a mediocre one. You’ll also learn to identify common defects and to read labels properly.
The positive attributes we look for are: fruitiness (green or ripe), bitterness (from the green olive), and pungency (from antioxidant polyphenols). These three elements indicate a fresh, high-quality oil with healthy properties.
The defects we want to avoid include: winey-vinegary, musty-humid, rancid, fusty, or metallic. An oil with any of these defects cannot be labelled as extra virgin — although, unfortunately, some still make it onto the shelves.
Spain is the world’s largest producer of olive oil, with more than 260 olive varieties. In our tastings we select 5 EVOOs that showcase the diversity of Spanish olive growing:
The most iconic of Spain, with a strong personality — marked herbaceous notes, pronounced bitterness and pungency. Perfect for bruschetta and sofritos. Its high polyphenol content makes it especially stable.
Smooth and sweet, with fruity aromas of apple and banana. A great entry point for people new to quality EVOO. Perfect for baking, mayonnaise, and delicate fish.
Balanced and elegant, with herbaceous and fruity notes. Light pungency and bitterness. Versatile across all kinds of dishes. Its name comes from the whitish underside of its leaves.
An oil with body — intensely fruity with green apple notes. Good balance between bitterness and pungency. Excellent for stews and meats.
Smooth and sweet, with hints of almond and almost no bitterness. Highly valued for dressings and dishes where you don’t want the oil to dominate.
During the tasting we explain the difference between single-variety oils (one type of olive) and coupages (a blend of varieties). Both have their place: single-variety oils express the unique personality of each cultivar, while coupages aim for balance and complexity by combining the best of each.
Spain has more than 30 Protected Designations of Origin (PDO) for olive oil. In our tastings we include oils from recognised designations such as Priego de Córdoba, Baena, Sierra Mágina, Siurana, Les Garrigues, Sierra de Segura, and Aceite de Mallorca. Each PDO has unique characteristics shaped by variety, climate, and terroir.
Beyond the fun factor, a corporate olive oil tasting brings several benefits to your organisation:
Sharing a new food experience creates bonds outside the usual work setting. Teams discover personal sides of their colleagues while learning together.
Unlike many other leisure activities, what people learn in an EVOO tasting carries straight back into their kitchen. Your team will take that knowledge into their everyday life, improving how they eat and how they understand food.
Alcohol-free, no prior skill required, suitable for any profile. Nobody is left out for religious, health, or personal reasons.
A direct link to Spanish olive oil tradition and the Mediterranean diet. Especially valuable for international teams who want to get to know our culture.
We run olive oil tastings across mainland Spain. We travel to your location with everything we need:

Ideal for corporate events in the capital. We bring the experience to your office, hotel, or event venue. We cover every area: city centre, the northern business district, and the Henares corridor.

Tailored to the Catalan business environment, with the option to include Catalan PDOs like Siurana or Les Garrigues. Service in Barcelona city and the metropolitan area.

Linked to the Valencian food tradition. We include Valencian PDO oils and adapt the event to the Mediterranean schedule.
Travel, set-up, and take-down are included in the price. All we need is a space with tables to seat the participants — we take care of everything else.
Every LoCatamos olive oil tasting includes:
Standard duration is 60 minutes, but we can adapt from 40 to 90 minutes depending on your needs. The minimum billable group is 15 participants, with no upper limit (for large groups we run several stations in parallel).
Those who have already taken part highlight the atmosphere, the professionalism and the unique nature of the workshop. The reviews speak for themselves.
We alternate the tasting of 5 oils with short educational monologues about the world of EVOO: history, production, varieties, health benefits, and tasting tips. The atmosphere is relaxed, participative, and full of humour. No previous knowledge needed.
We taste 5 extra virgin olive oils, carefully selected to showcase different varieties, origins, and organoleptic profiles. This number lets you learn without saturating the palate.
The minimum billable group is 15 people. For smaller groups, please check availability. There’s no maximum: we’ve run events with more than 200 participants at once.
Our service is designed mainly for corporate events, team building, and organised groups. If you’re a private group of a certain size (celebrations, associations), we can also help.
Yes, we include quality artisan bread to accompany the tasting and cleanse the palate between oils. Optionally, we can add a full pairing with cheeses, gourmet preserves, and other products (additional cost).
The price depends on group size, event location, and the level of customisation. Request a quote at no commitment, telling us: number of participants, approximate date, city, and any special requirements.
We organise olive oil tastings across mainland Spain. Main cities: Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Seville, Málaga, Zaragoza, Bilbao, Alicante, Murcia, Granada, Palma de Mallorca, San Sebastián, and any other location you need.
An olive oil tasting is alcohol-free, fits any time of day, and the knowledge you gain is applied daily in the kitchen. The technique is different (drawing air in with the oil in your mouth) and the descriptors are different too (herbaceous, fruity, olive-based). Just as enriching, but more practical for everyday life.
