Tasting is the sensory analysis of an individual drink or food to discover its unique characteristics, such as flavour, aroma and texture. For example, in a wine tasting, several wines are sampled to learn how to distinguish their nuances and qualities.
Beverage pairing, on the other hand, consists of harmoniously combining a beverage with a food so that they complement and enhance each other’s flavours. For example, a classic pairing would be white wine accompanied by fish, with the aim of enhancing the gastronomic experience.
Is a drinks tasting the same as a drinks workshop?
No, they are not exactly the same, although both involve tasting beverages.
A beverage tasting focuses mainly on the tasting and sensory analysis of various products (such as wines, beers or coffees), where their characteristics are assessed and participants learn to identify them.
A beverage workshop is more comprehensive and educational: it includes a tasting, but also usually incorporates more detailed explanations about the production, history, serving techniques, pairings and other skills related to the beverage in question.
